Tell us about your background
My career has been shaped by life underwater. I began as a U.S. Navy diver, working across a range of disciplines from mixed-gas diving to hyperbaric medicine. After more than two decades in the military, I moved into the world of underwater habitats. That’s where everything clicked for me. Over the years, I’ve taken part in numerous habitat missions, spending months of my life living on the seafloor and supporting science, exploration, and human performance research. Those experiences defined my career and sparked a long-term commitment to ensuring that humans can safely and meaningfully live and work underwater.
What’s your role at DEEP?
At DEEP, I’m responsible for making sure our subsea habitats are maintained and effective for the missions they support. That includes overseeing habitat maintenance, life-support systems, testing, and regulatory compliance. The other side of my role is planning and coordinating missions. I work closely with clients and users to understand what they want to achieve and ensure we can support those goals. Ultimately, my job is about creating a safe, reliable environment that allows people to focus on what they’re there to do, whether that’s research, training, or exploration.
What’s your favorite thing about working at DEEP?
What I love most about DEEP is that we’re continuing the legacy of underwater living. After years of seeing underwater habitats lose momentum, it’s incredibly energizing to be part of a team that’s investing in their future with intent and ambition. There’s nothing quite like watching someone experience extended time underwater for the first time and realising the possibilities it opens up.
