Tell us about your background

As well as my work at DEEP, I’m an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina, and a Visiting Scientist at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. My research focuses on developing ways to protect the brain and nervous system of humans working in extreme environments. I have also been a diver and leader with numerous underwater exploration, research, and conservation projects around the world since 1993, including the deep underwater exploration of Wakulla Springs and surrounding caves for over a decade. In 2016 I was selected as one of six crew members to join NASA’s saturation diving mission, NEEMO 21. That same year I was inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame.

What’s your role at DEEP?

I’m DEEP’s Director of Scientific Research. I lead the creation and implementation of our scientific research programme, which includes developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with academic, industry, and government scientific entities. I work alongside DEEP’s world-class engineering, training, operational, and business teams to help our research partners and customers conduct successful scientific research.

What's your favourite thing about working at DEEP?

I am humbled to be working within a collaborative family that is so driven by their passion to make humans aquatic. It is a daily inspiration to bring together each team member’s talents and vast experience to make DEEP's vision a reality.
