RESEARCH & INNOVATION

DEEP’s Research team are tasked with inventing, re-inventing and refining the fundamental sciences that underpin today’s understanding of humankind’s ability to live and work subsea. Our expertise and facilities are ideal for third-parties looking to do the same.

Recent projects

While we’re not ready to talk about the majority of the projects being undertaken by our Research team just yet, we have provided a few examples below to give a flavour of the breadth and scale of the problems we’re looking to solve in our mission to Make Humans Aquatic.

Cells under a microscope

The Bio-reactor Project

DEEP’s long-term research & development programme looking into the scaling and implementation of bio-reactors at depth as a permanent solution to the problem of sustainably dealing with waste subsea.

Project Suits

For humans to survive in the most extreme environment on the planet, DEEP are in search of the most durable and innovative materials to clad our Sentinel divers in. If you have an innovative garment or material and would like to accelerate development, please get in touch.

The Neon Experiments

In 2023, DEEP scientists completed one of the most comprehensive ever studies into the potential for Neon as a diving gas, with surprising results. Our findings will be published here and in appropriate journals once peer review is complete.

The U****d Project

One of DEEP’s current research projects has the potential to reduce the world’s seaborne CO2 emissions by more than a percentage point.

To initiate scientific engagement with the public, DEEP is releasing a Request for Information (RFI) to identify future collaborative research opportunities. For additional information on the RFI, please click the link below

“I’m proud to be part of the Research team at DEEP. We’re a small but dedicated team, each member specialising in a different scientific discipline. Between us, we’ve got the experience to overcome the challenges DEEP will face during our journey to the depths.”
